Joan Weingartner Obituary

Joan Anderson Montor Weingartner, 97, of Arnold, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on 2 October 2025. She cherished each day of her life, and of all the things she enjoyed, family was the most important. She was active with the Arnold Senior Center taking classes in classical music, Sign Language, TaiChi, dance, and Peer-to-Peer Learning. She had an adventurous spirit and traveled with family to Thailand, Cambodia, Oregon, Florida, California, Texas, and an Austrian river cruise. She loved weeknight dinners with her daughter's family, thrift shopping, attending theater performances and concerts, ballroom dancing, and reading. Her strength and positive outlook encouraged everyone. Joan was born in December 1927, and grew up on Long Island, New York. She attended Maryville College in Tennessee and the University of Illinois, earning a degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught kindergarten at Arnold Elementary from 1966 – 1988 and was involved with events at the U.S. Naval Academy. She married William Weingartner in 1983 and spent her later years as a world traveler and an avid learner. She enjoyed dining and current event discussions with family and close friends. She was a member of the Bahá'í Faith and her compassion reflected her deep faith and love of God. She will be forever remembered by her four children, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, William Weingartner and Karel Montor, and son Keith Montor. Joan always said, "Be Happy. Be Kind. Be Thankful." She brought smiles to thousands and will be missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1st at the Asbury Methodist Fellowship Hall in Arnold. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Joan by giving to the charity of your choice in her name or to Partners in Care Maryland, Inc. (8151 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122) for the Mobility Bus.
