Reverend Monsignor John Joseph Auer

1929 - 2022

Reverend Monsignor John Joseph Auer, 92, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2022 at Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Martin's Home, in Catonsville. He was born on November 13, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was reared by his parents, William Lester Auer and Catherine Wetzler Auer. He graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School, John Hopkins University, and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore. Monsignor Auer was ordained as a priest in May of 1957. He served as a priest for many churches throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and served as Pastor of Holy Trinity Church and Our Lady of the Fields Church. He also served as a missionary priest for the Society of St. James in Ecuador, South America for 5 years during the early 1960s. Monsignor Auer was respected and loved by his many parishioners and by his numerous friends and colleagues over the years. Monsignor Auer was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the O'Malley Senior Center. He enjoyed painting, sailing, skiing, and playing golf. Monsignor Auer was predeceased by his brother William Paul Auer and grand-niece Sarah Auer and grand-nephew Matthew Auer. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children and their grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22 nd from 3pm to 8pm at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church, with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 7pm at the church. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23rd from 10am to 10:45am at Church with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11am. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The Funeral Mass will also be livestreamed on the Our Lady of the Fields Youtube page.
