John McLeod Obituary

John Hiram McLeod, PhD, of Venice, FL, died peacefully on June 3, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. John is survived by his wife, Eleanor M Perfetto, his son Chase McLeod, daughter-in-law Shannon (Downey) and grandchildren Maddison and Cole, as well as brothers James and Thomas McLeod. He was preceded in death by his parents John Milburn and Alice (Betty) McLeod, and wife, Jennifer McLeod. John was born in Arcadia, FL, and graduated high school in Jacksonville and from Florida Southern College. John served in the Navy for 4 years, stationed in Washington, DC. After the Navy, he worked as a city planner for Arlington, VA, and then for the federal government with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. While there, John was a US delegate to the Panama Canal project in the 1990s in Panama. He retired from government service in 2007. John lived in Annapolis, MD, for over 40 years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and sailboat racing on the Chesapeake Bay, as well as crabbing and hunting on the Maryland eastern shore. As a long-time member of the Eastport Yacht Club, John served on and chaired the Race Committee and was principal race offer for local, national, and international boat races. John was also a lifetime member of the Fleet Reserve Club, a Scoutmaster, and an Annapolis High School PTSA volunteer. John's life will be celebrated with family and friends in November 2024 in Annapolis, MD and in Venice, FL in February 2025.
