John Perry Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John "Jack" A. Perry, Jr., affectionately known as "Papa Jack" or "Paw Paw", who went to our Lord on June 14, 2024 with his dear friend Nellie Jones at his side, at the age of 87. Born to the late John A. Perry Sr. and Gustavia Wemyss Perry of Tracys Landing, MD on May 30, 1937, Jack was a graduate of Southern High School. He proudly served in the Navy and remained in the Navy Reserves for several years. Jack married Elaine Mattingly in 1989. They moved from Lothian, MD to Bluffton, SC to start a new chapter of their lives. He had a lengthy career with PEPCO until his retirement at 55 years old. In his retirement, Jack enjoyed traveling, woodworking, fishing, golfing, karaoke, visiting with friends, and talking on the phone. Most important to him was his family. He had a loving relationship with his children and took great pride in his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Perry and his sister, Wemyss Sterling Moreland (Pat). He is survived by his friend, Nellie Jones; his children, Lisa Ingle (Clarence), Deanna Perry Streit (Jay), Annice Mattingly Weaver (Harry), and Kenneth Mattingly (Debbie); eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Friends are invited to celebrate Jack's life on Wednesday, June 26 from 11 am to 1 pm, with Words of Remembrance being shared at 12:30 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Jack played a huge role with my family. He became my dad´s (Rod Jenkins) best friend and mentor. He watched out for both my father and mother when my father fell ill. He brought the positivity, smiles, and laughs during that difficult time. He share so much knowledge and life stories that left impressions and influenced my own philosophies of life. Jack knew God. He lived by His words and shared that same love with those he met. Jack brought a gift of peace to me that I could never repay. I know he is side by side with Our Lord looking down and smiling over all of his family and loved ones along with anyone who ever were privileged to know him. Thanks for the pat on the back and reassurance! Love you, Jack

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Jack was a mentor to me at work. He was a friend and a brother in law. God bless you Jack. Rest in peace my friend.
