John Talman Obituary

John Junius "JJ" Talman III, 77, died of emphysema on Feb. 17 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after an extended illness.
Born May 8, 1931 in Wilmington, N.C., JJ moved with his family to Riva, MD in 1944. He graduated from Annapolis High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was the son of the late John J. and Bettie Talman who owned and operated the former Talman's Office Supply Co. located on Church Circle where he was employed for many years.
JJ was instrumental in the 1965 election campaign of Joe W. Alton, Anne Arundel's first County Executive. He then worked as County Photographer amassing a collection of photographs taken during the late 60s thru early 80s. After retiring in 1984 he canoed the Chesapeake Bay with his camera in hand for the next few years before settling in Eastport on his sailboat. Later he moved to Solomon's Island. In 2005 JJ returned to the Annapolis area where he lived until his passing. JJ was divorced from the late Elizabeth "Betty" Talman who died in 1991.
JJ umpired youth baseball in Sylvan Shores and coached youth football in Annapolis. He loved photography, the Chesapeake Bay, people, and a good bourbon and coke.
Survivors include his son John J Talman IV of Annapolis, and two sisters Ibra Bragg and Martha Brown, both of Davidsonville.
A celebration of his life will be held at Davis' Pub in Eastport on Tues., March 3 starting at 4pm.
