Lee Clapp Obituary

Lee Irving Clapp was born in Gary Indiana on February 28, 1941, to Harlan and Denise (Davey) Clapp. Lee was a member of the Masonic Lodge Mc Celland #357 in Hobart, Indiana, prior to him moving to Maryland in the 1970. Lee is survived by his wife Linda Clapp, son Lt CR. Brian L. Clapp, daughter Dori D. Gentry, former wife Mary Clapp, step sons Paul E. Revere and James P. Revere; grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of Ava and Liam Caulder. Lee served his country proudly for many years.  He enlisted in the military in the fall of 1966. He was assigned to the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey, Monterey, California, where he studied to become a Russian Linguist. In 1968, he received orders for the Field Station Berlin, West Berlin, Germany with the Army Security Agency. His superb language ability was soon recognized and he was assigned the job of transcriber which he held until he ended his tour in Bad Aibling, West Germany in Bavaria in the late 1970's.   After Lee's military career ended he continued his services to our country with various jobs with the Washington Navy Yard, National Security Agency and TSC until his retirement. Lee received many awards along the way such as the William Hunt Award, NSA Collection Association Best Technical Writer and the National Cryptologic Literature Award. In Lee's older years he enjoyed time with his family,  watching sports, golfing, cooking, reading and his cars. Lee was a beloved member of his family. He will be sorely missed by many! Friends and Family may gather at the Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home on Thursday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Funeral service, Friday, 10am from the funeral home. Interment Crownsville VA Cemetery.
