Richard Allan Hayden

Richard Allan Hayden (Spider), 81, formerly of Riva, MD, died peacefully in his sleep on January 11, 2022, at his home in Easton, PA where he resided for 14 years. He was the loving husband of Alice Bernice (Rivenbark) Hayden. Spider was born on July 30, 1940, in Washington D.C. to Charles and Eva Hayden. He graduated in 1959 from Bladensburg High School in Cheverly, MD. Spider enlisted in the United States Navy as a submarine sailor in 1959. He spent 6 years active duty on the Sailfish, Ethan Allen, and the Cobbler Submarines. He then transitioned to the Navy Reserves, finally retiring in 1980. Spider joined the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department in 1964, retiring as a Sergeant in 1985. His post-retirement endeavor was operating a hot dog stand for 10 years in Parole Plaza. He enjoyed all of his customers. He was a member of the Association of Retired Police Officers and a life member of the American Legion Brown and Lynch Post 9, of Easton, PA. In addition to his wife, Richard will be deeply missed by daughter, Alicia Wood and husband Howard, of Forks Twp.; grandchildren, Austin, Amy and Darin; great-grandchildren, Whitaker and Penelope; sister, Linda Bobick, of Pasadena, MD; nephews Scott and Kevin Bobick. His message to his family and friends was that he had a good ride. Services will be private at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph F. Reichel Funeral Home Inc., of Nazareth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Spider's memory to the charity of your choice.
