Sara Mitchell

1936 - 2021

Sara Jane Mitchell a long-time resident of Bowie, MD died March 13, 2021. Sara was born in Seattle Washington on February 22, 1936 to Albert and Edna Softky. Her husband, Gordon Stewart Mitchell, preceded her in death in 2020. Sara is survived by an older sister Maxine (Gerald) LeBeau of McFadden, Wyoming. Her twin sister, Sally Ann Strand (Richard) of Bothell, Washington preceded her death in 2018. She graduated in 1953 from Franklin High School and the University of Washington in 1957. On October 12, 1957 Sara and Gordon were married at Mount Baker Park Presbyterian Church in Seattle. They moved to Maryland where she was a Prince George's County Public School Physical Education teacher. Sara taught and substituted at area schools for many years. She retired from St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School in Upper Marlboro, MD. Sara loved spending time with her grandchildren. An accomplished snow skier she enjoyed many ski trips with her family. Sara was an avid gardener. An active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. No services will be held.
