Wayne Wicker Obituary

Wayne David Wicker, 63, of Chester since 1979, died Sept. 15 at Anne Arundel Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Mr. Wicker was born Oct. 1, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Charles Louis and F. Esther Daisy Wicker. He graduated from Bensalem High School near Philadelphia and attended several trade schools.

He worked in drafting and engineering for several companies near Philadelphia before moving to Maryland, where he worked in the steel industry, supervising and installing materials and constructing heating vessels in steel mills.

Later, he did vibration analysis for large motors and engines, and he supervised the construction of wastewater treatment plants on the east coast.

Mr. Wicker was active in outboard boat racing in the C and D classes and the Alcohol class outboards, and built engines for inboard boat racers.

He loved building and detailing his own model equipment, like model railroads, airplanes and helicopters. He served as his son's chief mechanic for motorcycle racing and enjoyed riding motorcycles himself.

He was known for drinking beer and telling bad jokes, his family said.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen B. Herring Wicker; one son, David Alan Wicker; two daughters, Jennifer Lynne Wicker and Margaret Catherine Chialastri; and four grandchildren.

A memorial visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow in his home, 108 Dundee Ave. in Chester.
