William Cairns Obituary

William James "Bill" Cairns William James Cairns, affectionately known as "Bill," 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 20, 2024. A native of Boston, MA, born on October 21, 1939, Bill spent most of his life in Annapolis, MD, and cherished memories of his time in Florida. Bill's early life was marked by his dedicated service in the Navy. He met his beloved Fran in Boston, MA, with whom he embarked on a lifetime of love and partnership. His entrepreneurial spirit emerged when he opened his first gas station in Lexington Park, MD in his twenties, followed by multiple used car lots. Together with Fran, they ventured into the world of motorsports with the purchase of Bud's Creek Drag Raceway, fostering a community for racing enthusiasts. After selling Bud's Creek, he continued to impact the automotive industry significantly with the opening of Bill Cairns Pontiac-GMC. His business not only thrived under his leadership but also reflected his personal ethos; he treated his employees like family, fostering a warm and inclusive environment. Bill was renowned for his warm heart, generous spirit, and the profound love he had for his family. His legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and unwavering support for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving children: Christine McNulty (Walter) of Vero Beach, Florida; Cheryl Dillard (David) of Hagerstown, Maryland; and Caryn Moxey (Nolan) of Sheridan, Wyoming. His eight grandchildren, Caroline, Kathryn, Andrew, Michael, William, Katelyn, Dylan, and Logan, along with his great-grandchildren, Theo and Ryker, brought him immense happiness in his later years. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Francine Louise Cairns, and his siblings Joe, Maureen, and Kathy. Bill's memory will be forever cherished by those who knew and loved him. The funeral service will be held at St John Neumann Church, 620 North Bestgate Rd, Annapolis, MD, on February 16th at 10:30 am.

My name is Steve Gelrud, My Dad had the Rexall Drug Store in Lexington Park. Bill first had the Gulf Station next to the store, back in 1966, etc. I was fortunate enough to know Fran and Bill. Loved them both, and Bill would always, after Friday night football, would take time to talk about how we did. I loved Bill, saw him about 3 years ago at my dads gold tournament. Everyone who knew him was fortunate. What a wonderful person, and my prayers are with the family. All the best Steve Gelrud

My Condolences to the family, I enjoyed my time at the dealership as a child with my Grandfather "Boots" on one of the few times I was there. But more memories when stopping by the house to service the boatlifts and an occasional lunch with him and talking GTO's

I love you so much and I miss you. You were the best Dad a girl could ever ask for. Thank you, Dad. I´m comforted to know that you are finally at peace in heaven with your beloved Frannie.
