Danny Snodgrass Obituary
Danny Lee Snodgrass, age 68, of Chatham passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 15, 2025.
Danny was born in Springfield, IL on December 17, 1956. He was the son of Raymond Lee Snodgrass and LuAnn Ferrero Bertolino, who preceded him in death.
Danny is survived by his fiancée, Cindy Sparks; one son, Josh Snodgrass; one daughter, Ashley (Mike) Cox; and one stepson, Joey Sparks. Danny enjoyed watching his children grow up, but we all knew he enjoyed his grandchildren more. Danny is survived by 5 grandchildren, Jaden (Giana Caravello) Snodgrass, Madison Koehne, Sam Cox, Jack Cox, and Razon Vega. Danny is also survived by four siblings, Terri (Shawn) Jordan, Kerri Snodgrass of Springfield, Mark (Tory) Bertolino, and Susan (Brian) Fore. He is also survived by one nephew, Blake (Taylor) Bertolino and one niece, Bridget Bertolino.
He is also preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Haley; and a very close cousin, Tony Ferrero.
Danny wore many hats throughout his time here on earth. Right after high school, he went to work for his family's business, Ferrero and Sons Masonry. He later ventured into the bar business and opened The Danzibar in Virden, IL. Danny had a passion for sales and the gift of gab which led him to Mueller Distributing where he worked as a liquor salesman before deciding to start a new endeavor into the world of insurance and financial securities. Danny embarked on his new career in 1997, obtaining his insurance and financial broker licenses which lead to numerous awards throughout his career including the AXA Advisors Centurion award in 2004, and several other top leader awards from AXA, MetLife, MassMutual, and LPL Financial. He along with his business partners, Kurt Flaherty and Sue Meyer, were also named 2008 Corporate Sponsors of the Year by the Autism Society. Danny's passion for the insurance and securities world was unmatched, he treated every client with respect and dignity and his number one concern was that they were taken care of correctly. Danny lived by the motto "you can't go wrong by doing the right thing" and that shined through not only his professional career, but his personal life as well. Danny played a crucial role in the success of Mick and Mary's in Thayer, IL. You would often see him on Thursdays or Sundays at Mick and Mary's where he loved to buy others a round of drinks and sit and talk about the good ole days.
Danny also spent 30+ years as an IHSA basketball official. He officiated games all over the state of Illinois including the IHSA Boys Class A State Tournament in 2002, 2003, and 2006. Danny officiated in the 2006 championship game. Danny was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association in 2011 and has played a key role in making sure the IBCA Basketball Museum located in Bedford, IL came to fruition.
Danny lived a life of integrity. He rarely met a stranger, and if he didn't know you, he knew someone that you knew. He was charismatic, always knew how to make everyone feel seen. He greeted you with a handshake and a smile, even till the time he was called home. Danny will be sorely missed, but through his family, his legacy will live on in their hearts and in all the stories of memories of his time here on earth.
The family would like to extend an invitation to celebrate Danny's life to all he knew. A visitation will be held at Auburn High School Gymnasium on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 3-7pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mick and Mary's on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 3-7pm.
