Kenneth Ewald Matzat

Kenneth Matzat peacefully went with the Angels on June 23, 2025 after a courageous battle with multiple medical conditions. He was born on September 27, 1952 to Henry and Olga (Redweik) Matzat in Winamac, Indiana. On a cold, snowy December night in 1975, Ken met Sue Boesdorfer on a blind date. They were married on October 16, 1976 and celebrated 48 years together. He worked for many years for the Bunn-O-Matic Corporation before his health required him to take medical disability. Ken was very active in his children's and grandchildren's sports activities. He was a sports enthusiast for all levels – high school, college and professional. His favorite sport was Nascar racing and he attended several races in person. He was involved with his faith family at Zion Lutheran Church, serving as Chairman of the Congregation, Elder, Treasurer and Trustee. Ken is survived by his wife, Sue; daughter, Jennifer (David) Darnell and son, Adam (Megan) Matzat. He was the proud grandfather to Anna (Michael) Zambito, Mackenzie Matzat, Maisie Matzat, and Thomas Darnell as well as step-granddaughters Jacey Ratliff and Paige Ratliff. Also surviving are his brother, John Matzat, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Debbie Matzat (In infancy), Connie Matzat (In infancy) and Bonnie Raffel, aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation for Ken Matzat will be held on Saturday, June 28, 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Pleasant Plains. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. Burial in Pleasant Plains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or Clayville Historic Site.
