Dorothy Gadd Obituary

Dorothy Gadd
April 23, 1933 - October 10, 2025
Dorothy Mae (Husted) Gadd, Spearfish, SD, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025 at the age of 92.
Dorothy was born on April 23, 1933, to Benjamin and Doris (LaFurge) Husted. She had two brothers, Donald and Roger, and one sister, Wilma. She was born in Iowa, but grew up in Hyde and Hughes counties finally settling on the ranch south of Harrold, SD. After high school, she attended Black Hills Teacher's College. After graduation, she taught in one-room schoolhouses in central SD. On August 19, 1956, she married Robert Gadd and then moved to the Gadd Ranch south of Highmore, SD. She was an avid bowler, winning several trophies and also worked as a bookkeeper at the Highmore Nursing Home for several years.
In 1981, the family moved to Fort Pierre, SD, and there Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for Brad Clark Electric. She was an active member of the United Church of Christ both in Fort Pierre and Spearfish. After Robert's retirement, they loved to travel in their Winnebago with their cat, Abby. They were able to visit many places before Robert's sudden passing in 2005, including spending winters in McAllen, TX with friends. Dorothy spent her last years at Burr's Tender Care Assisted Living Facility in Spearfish. She enjoyed visits from family and talking to fellow residents.
Dorothy is survived by her two children, Peggy Moreno (Eduardo) of Spearfish, SD and Jason Gadd (Laura) of Hopkins, MN. She enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren, Riley Kuhl of Green Bay, WI, and Connor Kuhl of Spearfish, SD. She is also survived by a brother, Roger Husted (Delores) of Harrold, SD; a special niece, Pandora Kusser (Rod); and numerous other nephews, nieces and friends.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in remembrance of Dorothy to Burr's Tender Care Assisted Living Facility, 209 Evans Lane, Spearfish, SD 57783. Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com.
