Paul Douglas Holzum

1945 - 2025

Paul Douglas Holzum, 79 of Absarokee, passed away in Billings, Montana, November 3, 2025.

At his request, there will be no funeral services and his ashes will be spread on the 'Skank Ranch' near Washoe, Montana Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home, Billings, MT.

Doug was born in Billings, Montana, to Paul and Audrey Holzum on December 5, 1945. He graduated from Belfry High School, Belfry, Montana, where he excelled in track. He continued his education at the University of Montana, in Missoula. He graduated in 1968 with a BS degree in Education and History. He was active in the UM college rodeo program as a bareback and saddle bronc rider. Doug was president of the University of Montana Rodeo Club in 1967-68.

Doug married Janus Kirk on August 25, 1968, in Somers, Montana on Flathead Lake. Doug taught Junior High English, social studies and coached football for ten years at Bigfork Junior High School, Bigfork, Montana. The family moved to Manhattan, Montana in 1980 and Doug taught at Manhattan High school for three years. Doug was a scholar, cowboy, hunter, and a wonderful husband and dad. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Audrey Holzum and grandson, Gage Paul Holzum.

Doug is survived by his wife, Janus Holzum of Absrokee and two sons, Tyler and wife, Jennifer and their son Ty of Fromberg, Montana and Damon Holzum of Los Angeles, CA. Doug is also survived by his sister, Linda DeBourg and family of Red Lodge, Montana.
