Michael Dixon Obituary

Michael Warren Dixon
December 29, 1951 - November 28, 2023
Carmel Valley In Loving Memory of Michael Warren Dixon
Michael Warren Dixon was a loving father and grandfather, a loyal friend, a competitive athlete, an old cowboy and a western gentleman. He loved animals, Knob Creek on the rocks, and a bowl of ice cream after dinner. Michael enjoyed playing a round of golf, listening to music, and sharing lemon icebox pie on special occasions. He appreciated perfectly starched denim, beautiful women, and a comfortable couch to stretch out on.
Michael was born on December 29,1951 to Daniel Lawrence Dixon Jr. and Juanita Elizabeth Dixon (nee Henry) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended school in Hartselle, Alabama and graduated from California State University, Fresno, "Fresno State". Michael began his career in Sales and Marketing, working in the Western Wear Market and then in the Human and Animal Dietary Supplement Industries. He served as the CEO of The National High School Rodeo Association, and in 2015, Michael founded Optimum Performance Equine Nutrition. Michael was a lovable, respected, servant leader, who nurtured life-long relationships.
Michael loved adventure and travel, but the experiences were always about visiting with his family, friends and colleagues, and spending time with those he loved. Michael had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to laugh, reminisce, and tell silly jokes. Michael was genuine, kind, extremely sentimental, and had a soft spot in his heart for children.
On November 28, 2023, Michael passed into the loving arms of The Lord, after a long, private and courageous battle with cancer. Michael was a man of deep faith. It gives us all comfort to know that he is looking down on us from Heaven with hope, love and grace.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Morgan Dixon, and his adored grandsons, Graydon and Holden Hedley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Patricia Ann Sims (nee Dixon) and Georgie "Teri" Dixon.
Those left behind to honor and cherish his memory are his nephew, Doug Sims, his great niece and nephew, Lily and Daniel Sims, numerous cousins, a host of friends and colleagues, and his precious traveling companion, the fierce Dwarf Schnauzer, Harlie.

Just noticed Mikes passing through a publication from Fresno State. Besides being the two best looking guys on campus, we spent many hours
together playing basketball. After we graduated in 75, I´d run into him in Clovis. It was a pleasure knowing his true cowboy spirit. I´m still in Fresno,
Martin McBride.

Mike was my one of my best friends since 1992 when we met in San Francisco at Fashion Expo. He was a salesman for all things cowboy fashion and I was a new clothing designer. Mike and I became instant friends and eventually business partners for over 10 years. We always made the effort to stay connected throughout the years. I visited him often in Monterey and loved staying at Casa Dixon. We spent 3 beautiful days together last September and I wondered then if that would be the last time. We left NOTHING unsaid. He was a genuinely kind soul who always gave 150% to his friends, family and career. My heart was filled with his love and friendship. I left him silly notes on his refrigerator and ironed his wrinkled cloth napkins when he wasn´t there. His quick wit and awesome sense of humor was unmatched. His love for Morgan and his beautiful grandsons was immeasurable. I miss him and I will miss our long talks about life and love, our walks along Carmel beach and wine at Mission Ranch. Rest easy cowboy.

I don´t remember when I met Mike, but it was sometime early in the 90´s when he lived on Huntington Blvd in Fresno, California. He, his long time friend Mike Phillips and I just seemed to hit it off from day one. I considered him a good friend, someone I could count on if I needed too and those kind of friends are few and far apart. We talked, played a little golf, did a little business together and stayed in touch where ever he called home after leaving Fresno. We shared a fondness for Knob Creek and for many years when he would drift thru Fresno he, Mike Phillips and I would go out for a drink. My wife called it "going out with the Mikes", she knew them both and never minded when I was with them. He knew both of my sons and occasionally gave council to them when a Dad couldn´t. He was a great guy, a man´s man and was always a gentleman.
A little piece of me passed when he did and I will never forget him.

I graduated with Mike. I remember he was cute and he knew it. A little cocky in that high school way. He was popular with all the girls. He was a good athlete and a friend to us all.The last time I saw Mike was this past summer when he came to one of our class reunion luncheons. His nephew Doug was with him. I sat beside them. Doug and I both live in Huntsville (if I remember correctly)! We had good food and conversation and laughter. I´m so sorry. He will be missed
