Janis Alice Barr

1946 - 2024

Janis Alice Barr, born on July 8, 1946, in Seattle, Washington, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, in Oceanside, California. She was 78 years old.

Janis was preceded in death by her father, Jack Hurley Barr, mother, Goldie Eva Knoedler, her infant brother, Jack Barr, and brother-in-law, Jerry Blacklock. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Jackie Lynn Blacklock; her children, Jay Christopher Sibley, Jeff Christian (Nicole) Sibley, Lizabeth Sibley (Ian) Kelly, and Michelle Sibley (Blaine) Current; her niece, Kami (Robert) Cozzi; and her cherished grandchildren.

Janis spent much of her youth in Cardiff-by-the-Sea in San Diego County. She attended San Dieguito High School and later pursued studies at Palomar College. During her younger years, she enjoyed surfing at Cardiff State Beach and riding through town on her mid-1960s Suzuki motorcycle-memories that reflected her adventurous spirit.

Janis dedicated 30 years of service as a telephone operator for Pacific Bell, beginning her career in Ukiah, California, and retiring in Sacramento. After retirement, she found immense joy in caring for her grandchildren, forming deep and meaningful bonds that brought great fulfillment.

Janis had a passion for music and loved attending concerts. She was an avid football fan and loved the San Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks. She also enjoyed reading and watching her favorite cable shows, finding comfort and entertainment in these pastimes.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her legacy of love, adventure, and devotion inspire and comfort cherished family and friends. To our beautiful ocean angel, you will be missed. Until we meet again, Mama Starr, Mahalo!
