Larry Dunbar

1947 - 2024

Larry Dunbar was laid to rest at Sierra View Mortuary & Memorial Park in Olivehurst on Thursday, June 13, 2024. In attendance were his wife of 55 years, Jane (Filter) Dunbar, and his three children and their families: Melissa and Joe Antony (of Davis), Matthew and Meredith Dunbar (of Canal Winchester, Ohio), and Melanie and Mike Powers (of Carmichael). Also present were Larry's five beloved grandchildren, Gwenneth and Grayson Dunbar, Joby Antony, and Maximus and Jackson Powers. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Barkley (nee Coppin, Dunbar) and his younger brother, Allen. Larry was a proud veteran of the United States National Guard and Army Reserves. To honor his service to his country, Larry's childhood friend, Mark Carlson, along with members of the American Legion Post No. 705 of Yuba City performed military funeral honors and presented folded American flags to Larry's family. Larry graduated from Yuba City High School, class of 1965. He graduated from Yuba College in 1967, and Chico State in 1969 with a bachelor of science degree in business. Larry worked for the State of California at State Fund as a workers compensation auditor, retiring in 20xx, and spent his golden years doing the things he loved: reading, catching a game on TV, chatting with his neighbors about tools and life, complaining about the temperature, watching his children thrive, and being ever-present in the lives of his grandchildren. He almost never missed a big school event or game that his local grandchildren participated in. His loved ones will always remember him for his big smile, helping hand, hearty cheers, and classic chuckle, which endeared him to friends and strangers alike.
