I met Alan through running ultramarathons. I don´t claim to have known him well. He was a man of few words and the limited amount of time i spent with him made it impossible for us to become good friends. But despite this, when he found out that I had been diagnosed with Parkinson´s, he recommended a book that was a Complete Guide on the disease. Before I even had time to order it, a copy arrived in my mailbox. I had heard so many people in the ultra running community speak so highly about Alan that I didn´t need convincing about what a great guy he was, but that book helped me cope with the 6 years since I was diagnosed. Thank you Alan. I am forever grateful and feel fortunate to have known you.
My condolences go out to his wife Pam. I always admired their relationship. They were the ultimate running partners and an inspiration to all!

When I joined VHTRC, Alan was the president. Others followed. I have always joked that "Alan was the only king of the north that I knew." An approachable man of stature. As the Rogue Chef, I great look forward with serving him his chocolate recovery drink. Wild salmon was a fav of his. It was so nice to stay in touch with him and Pam.

This is a sad day. Alan will be deeply missed. I´ve not had the privilege of meeting a more kind and thoughtful man, as they do not exist. To Pam and the family, please know that Alan´s time away from you, spent with us made a real difference in our lives, thank you for sharing him with us. Rest easy now brother.
