Barbara Schultz Obituary

Barbara Romaine Frush Schultz passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2024. She was looking forward to being reunited with her husband, her parents, her brothers, and many other family members and friends who have gone on before her. Most importantly, she was looking forward to meeting Jesus face-to-face. Barbara was born in Alesia, Maryland on April 22, 1929 to Mary Lawson Frush and Julius Carleton Frush, joining her older brother, Julius Carleton Frush, Jr. and joined eleven years later by her younger brother, Marvin. Barbara grew up on the family chicken farm and learned to work hard and play hard at an early age. Barbara gave her heart to the Lord when she was eleven and when she was in third grade, she started taking piano lessons and became a gifted musician. That brought about a life-long love for music with many opportunities to sing and play throughout her lifetime. She attended Houghton College in New York where she majored in piano and voice. Barbara formed and directed many music groups both in her church and in the Hampstead Youth for Christ program that her husband, Earl, founded. Even at age 95 at Lincoln Meadows, the retirement home where she finished her earthly life, she would entertain her fellow seniors with music to sing-a-long to as they were waiting for dinner, playing from heart and modulating easily from key to key. In her later years, nothing brought her more joy than to play and sing about heaven. When she was 18, Barbara met a young man who was in the process of starting a Youth for Christ program in Hampstead, Maryland. Barbara Frush and Earl Schultz would go on to fall in love and marry on August 20, 1950, becoming a family with three children: David, Debbie and Donna. Barbara and Earl spent a lifetime loving the Lord and sharing that love with many young people through Youth for Christ, and with many personal church and neighborhood friendships, eventually ministering throughout the world. Many lives were changed because of how God used their shared ministry. Barbara and Earl moved their family from Hampstead, Maryland to Glen Ellyn, IL in 1973 where they enjoyed many years before Earl passed away in April 1997 after a 2-year battle with cancer. Barbara had a busy life for the next 27 years, doing some international traveling with friends, visiting family often and eventually moving to Warrenville, IL and becoming a snowbird in Phoenix, Arizona where she wrote an amazing book about her life entitled, My Remarkable Journey. Barbara finally moved to Colorado in the summer of 2009 where she enjoyed living close to her son and daughter-in-law, David and Dawn, with frequent visits from other family members. Barbara is survived by three children: David (Dawn), Debbie (David), and Donna. Barbara is also survived by her grandchildren, Bethany, Brendan, Matthew, Rachel, Mary, Christopher, Katelyn, Emily, Cameron, Hannah, Wesley, and Stone, 16 great-grandchildren, her younger brother, Marvin and his wife, Elinore, and many loving nieces and nephews. A service honoring Barbara will be held at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Hampstead, MD on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11am, followed by a catered lunch for all at the Church Social Hall.
