Calvin H. Richards Jr.

Calvin H. Richards Jr., 63, of Sykesville, died Monday, March 11, 2013.

He was the son of Alberta Richards and the late Calvin Richards Sr. He was the husband of Deborah H. Richards.

He was a graduate of Landsdowne High School. He was in the United States Marine Corp, serving as a dog handler. He credited his dog Oz with saving not only his own life but also his fellow Marines. Early in his career he was a journeymen electrician before moving into HVAC work and ultimately becoming a chief engineer. During his career he worked for a number of companies. After retirement he drove for Butler Medical Transport.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Michelle "Dawn" Richards and Steven Richards, both of Sykesville, Kimberly Curry and husband Shawn, of Glenville, Pa., and Craig Gajewski and wife Lesley, of Eldersburg; grandchildren Rowan, Jade, Amelia, Andrew, Anna and William; a brother, B. Wayne Richards, of Halethorpe; and numerous family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Winter's Lutheran Church, 701 Green Valley Road, New Windsor.
