Charlotte Lee Sommer

Charlotte Lee Sommer, 84, of Sykesville, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Carroll Hospital. She was born on March 11, 1941, in Baltimore, MD to the late Walter H. Ray and Martha V. Southcomb Ray. She was the wife of the late Charles Albert Sommer, who died in 2018. Charlotte was raised in Catonsville, MD and was a graduate of Catonsville High School. She then attended Towson State College where she received a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education. Charlotte taught preschool and served as director for the Messiah Lutheran Nursery program for many years, until her retirement. She had a strong faith in God and was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eldersburg where she taught Sunday school for many years and remained active in the church community until her death. She enjoyed gardening, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children and their spouses Jennifer and Steve Kerzel of Westminster, Eric and Julie Sommer of Taneytown and Megan and Rich Kochanski of Eldersburg; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Robert Larson of Lancaster, PA, grandchildren Matthew, Hannah, Emily, Rachel, Nathan, Abigail and Robin and great-grandchild Rowan. She was predeceased by daughter-in-law Janine Sommer. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1700 St. Andrews Way, Eldersburg, MD with her pastor, Rev. Christopher Sperb officiating. Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Marriottsville. Those desiring may make memorial donations to Faith Lutheran Church in her memory.
