Darryl Hale Obituary

Darryl Glenn Hale of Taneytown, Maryland passed away suddenly at home on April 1, 2025 after a brief illness. Darryl was born on February 17th, 1967, in Hanover, PA. He was the Director of Planning and Zoning and Code Enforcement for the City of Taneytown, MD. Prior to his current employment, Darryl worked in the HVAC industry for over 25 years. Darryl served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was an exemplary Marine, serving during Operation Desert Shield and Storm. While in service he received many honors, to include; Southwest Asia Service Medal (with 2 Stars) a Navy Unit Citation (USS Portland), a Kuwait Liberation Medal, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, a Navy Unit Commendation (with 1 star) and a Combat Action Ribbon. His commitment to civic responsibility was a key part of his identity and only highlighted his spirit of generosity and altruism. He previously served as both a Council Member and Mayor ProTem for the City of Taneytown. He was an advocate for community action groups and received a Governor's Citation for his efforts during his tenure on the Taneytown City Council. His thoughtful nature was only surpassed by his dedication to being a loving father and husband. He had a joy for life, which was reflected by his playful, witty sense of humor, which he shared with friends and family alike. He cherished the relationships he built over the years and never met a stranger. He was a member of Monocacy Lodge A.F. & A.M. #203 and a member of the American Legion Post #120. He was an avid Washington Redskins / Commanders fan, even when they lost. He enjoyed fishing, kayaking, listening to music and supporting his children in their extracurricular activities. He most enjoyed festivities that included family and friends. He shamelessly catered to his faithful sidekick, Remy, the family Chocolate Labrador Retriever. He was predeceased by his brother, Jerry Hale, father, Gerald Hale and stepfather, William Ames, III. Darryl leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years, Kimberly Hale, along with their two cherished children, Morgan Hale and Mason Hale, all of Taneytown. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Delores Nelson, brother Albert "Will" Ames and wife Carrie Ames, all of Taneytown, MD. Sister, Melissa Cook and husband Gregory, of Portsmouth, VA, brother-in- law and sister-in-law, Rich and Alison Kittle of Colorado Springs, CO, and sisters Debbie Beal and Alicia Ames. Also, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, with whom he shared special bonds and cherished memories. A Celebration of Darryl's life will be held at Fireman's Activity Building located on the fairgrounds, 9 Memorial Drive, Taneytown, MD, 21787 on Saturday, May 3rd at 11 a.m. Immediately followed by a Time of Fellowship at the American Legion Post #120. I am so sorry to hear this news. Darryl and I were good friends in middle school before I moved to TN in 1979. I wish we had stayed in touch. From what I´ve read about his life accomplishments, he was a good man. I would´ve expected no less. I wish his family my condolences.

Although I only knew Darryl briefly, I was immediately impressed by his professional demeanor and strength of character. Also his willingness to step up and face any situation or challenge that presented itself. My sincere condolences and prayers go out to his family. May he rest in peace with God.

Kim, Morgan, and Mason,

As the daughter of a guy who was a medic for the Rangers before becoming a truck lieutenant in the Baltimore County fire department as well as a seminary student and follower of Jesus Christ, you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please know that I'm a message or phone call away.

My condolences to the family. I use to babysit Darryl, Jerry & Willie when they moved to the opposite end of our street on Hersh avenue. Hearing of his passing saddens me. I will always remember that little boy. Thoughts and prayers to you all. RIP Darryl
