Gary Eppley Obituary

Gary LeRoy Eppley, 63, of Manchester passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Dove House after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Born October 11, 1958 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Helen (Alban) Eppley. He was a member of the 1976 graduating class of North Carroll High School. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester. He is survived by sons: Benjamin Gary Eppley and Andrew Richard Eppley, and fiancée: Linda Gregg. Also surviving are siblings: Judy Bixler of Hanover, PA, Cindy Ganjon (Erich) of Westminster, MD, and Randy Eppley (Karen) of Stafford, VA, and six nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by infant daughter Anna Elizabeth Eppley and a sister Nancy David. Gary was a hometown boy and lived his entire life in the Manchester area. For the past 11 years, he worked for The Town of Manchester, where he became a member of a "family" of coworkers and life-long friends. He was so grateful to them for being there for him in his time of need, whether it was for a ride to the hospital, doctor appointments, chemo treatments-whatever he needed throughout his illness. Their acts of kindness will never be forgotten. Gary enjoyed dirt track car racing, bowling, and playing softball. He was an avid Orioles and Ravens fan. He also participated as one of the characters in the annual Manchester Play fundraiser for the fire company for over 30 years. Gary joined the Manchester Volunteer Fire Company as a teenager in October of 1974 and played an active part up until his death. He held various positions with the Fire Company including President and Vice President, Assistant Chief, Recording Secretary and Financial Secretary. He also served on the County Executive Committee and Budget Committee of Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, December 2, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD, 21102, and on Friday, December 3, from 10-11 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3184 Church Street, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am, with Deacon Charles Barnhart officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his daughter in New Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 416, Manchester, MD 21102, or to BridgingLife Dove House, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157. Online condolences may be offered at www.eckhardtfuneralchapel.com
