Helen "Joyce" (nee Valentine) Minnich, 78 of Artemas, PA, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on March 16, 2022, from glioblastoma multi-form brain cancer. She was born at home in Ilchester, Maryland on September 29, 1943. Joyce was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Alta (nee Acuff) Valentine. She was also predeceased by; her brother Harry E. Valentine, Jr., sister Wanda L. Cross, brother-in-law Joseph L. Minnich, Jr., sister-in-law Mary Beth Stocksdale, sister-in-law Jane Marie and brother-in-law Harry Short. She was a 1962 graduate of Howard High School located in Ellicott City, MD. Joyce was a teacher's assistant at Winfield Elementary School in Carroll County, MD, retiring from there with 30 1/2 years of dedicated service. Joyce also worked alongside her husband in their lawn care business. She was a Cub Scouts Den Mother for many years. She was also a member of Re Temple 118 Daughters of the Nile. Joyce and Rick enjoyed disco and ballroom dancing. She also enjoyed outdoor activities such as; working in her flower gardens, taking walks in the woods and at the beach, camping and Sudoku puzzles. Joyce was also proficient at painting and drawing. A treasured memory for Joyce was a camping journey she and Rick took across country to Alaska; she described it as a "trip of a lifetime". Most of all, Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family. Joyce is survived by; her loving husband of 59 years, Richard L. Minnich, two beloved sons; Timothy L. (wife Tammy) of Artemas, PA and Eric S. (wife Stacey) of Frostburg, MD, granddaughter Courtney E. (special friend Shane), grandson Brandon R. (fiancé Ashley) and two great-grandsons; Miles Minnich and Shawn Shaw. In addition, she is survived by her sister Claudette (Valentine) Diggs (husband Sonny), brother-in-law David Cross, sister-in-law Rose Valentine (special friend Kenny), brother-in-law Alfred Minnich (wife Joan) and Richard Stocksdale, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation for the loving, gentle care given to Joyce by both the Connemaugh Home Health and Grane Hospice Home Care personnel. They truly became members of our family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 1 to 3 pm and 5 to 7 pm at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 95 Union St., Berkeley Springs, WV.
