Janina Sturdivant Obituary



Janina Rebecca "Jen" Sturdivant, 36, of Taneytown, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, following a lengthy battle with leukemia.

Born Aug. 3, 1976, in Silver Spring, she was the daughter of James D. Jr. and Maria "Nini" Jardeleza Hansbrough, of Taneytown. She was the wife of Christopher L. Sturdivant.

She was a 1994 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School. She was a substitute teacher for Carroll County Public Schools.

She enjoyed working with the youth of the community and served on the Board of the FSK Junior Eagles. She was known for her creative spirit.

She enjoyed knitting, and especially her time with the family babies. She was active in the life of Uniontown Bible Church.

Surviving, in addition to her parents and husband, are sons Alexander and William Sturdivant, of home; siblings Jes Corey and husband Ian, of Baltimore, Jimbo Hansbrough, of Germantown, Katie Korn and husband Patrick, of Keymar, Joe Hansbrough and wife Erica, of Sykesville, and Rico and Jack Hansbrough, both of Taneytown; a maternal grandmother, Lolita Jardeleza, of Silver Spring; paternal grandparents James Sr. and Betty Hansbrough, of Taneytown; a nephew, Bo Korn; nieces Maggie Korn, Grace Hansbrough, and Lolo Corey; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was predeceased by brothers Joshua and Jacob Hansbrough; a maternal grandfather, Magdaleno Jardeleza; and paternal grandparents Harry and Mary Murphy.

Immediate arrangements are private. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date at Uniontown Bible Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 310, White Plains, NY, 10605.

Arrangements are by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.
