Jean Fidler Obituary

Jean M. Fidler, 83, of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care on Monday, August 25, 2025 at the UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, PA. Born July 24, 1942 in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Hilda (Leese) Hoff of Manchester, MD. Jean was the loving wife of the late Ronald N. Fidler, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage until his passing on March 24, 2014. Jean was an active, lifelong member of Grace Global Methodist Church of Hanover. She was well known for her fudge, sugar cookies and sand tarts, as well as her many years working on the Christmas Bazaar committee. Jean was a 1960 graduate of North Carroll High School, Hampstead, MD. While growing up on her family farm, she was active in 4-H and her home church, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manchester, MD. Jean was a seamstress, taking in sewing for the past 61 years. She did anything from minor hems and repairs to wedding dresses, and custom garments for her loyal customers. She later worked for Chris Kraft, LTD in Manchester, MD, and for Sheila Zent, a private designer in Hanover, PA. She most recently helped with apparel repairs for the Hanover Historical Society. Jean volunteered alongside her husband, Ron, with the Boy Scouts of America for many years. She served on various committees and loved making fudge and brownies for the troop where her husband and children were members. Jean was also a member of the South Western Band Boosters, and served on PTO's when her children were in school. Jean is survived by her children; Penny A. Wales and husband David of York, PA, K. Scott Fidler and wife Wendy of Hanover, PA, and Stanley R. Fidler and wife Charlee of Spring Grove, PA; two grandchildren; Stephen D. Wales and wife Caitlyn of Reading, PA, and Michelle V. Betancourt and husband Daniel of Seven Valleys, PA; three great-grandchildren, Sophia Wales, Natalie Wales, and Jackson Betancourt; and a brother, Burnell Hoff of Westminster, MD. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Donald Hoff, Dale Hoff, and Joan Wisner. Following cremation, a service to celebrate and remember Jean's life will be held 11AM, Friday, September 12, 2025, at Grace Global Methodist Church of Hanover, 55 Albright Drive, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Todd A. Christine officiating. Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10-11AM, Friday, September 12, 2025, at the church.
