Jeannie told me I made the best red sauce. I'm glad she enjoyed it.
I would see Jeannie food shopping several times. She always took time to chat.

My heart is broken for the beautiful Vogel family. You let me into your home with open arms and loved and cared for me when Meredith and I became friends. I received nothing but care and love when I was in your home. I thank you a million times over for your kindness. Please know her love and warmth never went unnoticed. May angels lead her in.

I was so saddened to hear of Jeannie's passing. We reconnected last year when she made a delicious tray of "goodies" for my oncology nurses. I was one of her children's preschool teachers. We had many laughs remembering those days. She was so proud of her kids & was especially excited at that time because Tommy was about to graduate from the Air Force Academy. She was one proud mama and so warm & loving! Prayers going up!

I only knew Jeannie as a guest at her wonderful bakery. She was lovely, warm, and such a great baker. Jeannie, her husband, and all who work at the bakery make everyone who walks through the door feel special. I will truly miss her warm smile and kind ways. What a tragic loss of a beautiful soul.

My deepest and heartfelt sympathies for Jeannie's entire family. Jeannie and I were high school friends, played lacrosse together, camped in Myrtle Beach together and shared so many laughs. I know she touched everyone she met, with a heart of gold and a contagious smile. I'm so sad I can't be there this weekend but lift all of you up in prayers. Tina (Breslin) Williams

Bernie,Thomas,Meredith and Audrey,my family and I want to tell you how sorry we are to hear of Jeannie's passing. We have recently moved from the area. We lived on Salem Bottom Road. Our grandchildren went to school with your children and remember how nice Jeannie always was. I stopped by the bakery for pastries and ordered cakes from Jeannie. I never saw Jean that she didn't have a smile. She gave great hugs when she greated you. Jean will be missed by so many people. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dearest Bernie and family,
My heart hurts for you all with deepest grief. May Love hold you tight in the midst of sorrow...
It was an honor just to know your beloved, a tender privilege to collaborate with her some years back on the support group project for postpartum depression, and then to reconnect (and discover other connections) via the loveliest bakery on the planet: truest treasure.
My son's school buddies love gathering at the bakery on Wednesday afternoons. In fact, the 2nd half of a gluten-free torte that Jeannie sliced for him/us last week remains in the fridge. It feels sacred now. Except it already was sacred...because Everything she touched was met with Love.
Love, a bakery with perfect slivers of sunlight for those who needed to linger over coffee with "complicated syrup," generosity and the most sincere care for our community, the best damn (sorry--it's true) laugh in the universe--just a few observed certainly innumerable gifts.
~
You touched my life, Jeannie. To the core.
My heart holds your family and "croo" in hope.
You made a mark--so many beautiful, indelible marks of authentic kindness on this space.
Love and more love,
Melissa (and family)

I am so very sorry for your loss. I was in shock when I heard. I have frequented the bakery soon after it opened. I work nights in DC and would stop by on Sat. a.m. for a wonderful treat. I was immediately taken by Jeannie's warm and genuine welcoming presence and kindness (you can see it in her smile). I felt right at home and fell in love with the pastries etc. and the staff (love the chocolate almond torte).
My heart breaks for all of you. Please know that she will live on in all our hearts and memories. May God keep you close and watch over you in this time of sorrow.
Most sincerely,
Mary Yingling
