Karen Carr

Karen Langer Carr, 81, of Westminster, MD, passed away on September 25, 2025 at her home. Born on her favorite holiday, October 31, 1943, in New Haven, CT, Karen was the daughter of the late Francis Langer and Helen (Whalen) Langer. Karen is also predeceased by her loving husband, James Aloysisus Carr, and sister, Sheila Ferdinand and Celine Smith. Karen graduated from Saint Joseph College in Emmitsburg, MD, in 1965. Karen was a devout Catholic whose faith shaped her life. Through the years, she served her church faithfully, including many years as a Eucharist Minister and as a Catechist educating the youth of the church. Karen found joy in teaching, whether in parish programs or school settings. There was nothing she cherished more than spending time with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed playing games and doing puzzles with them. Spending time at Sunset Beach, side by side with her husband, were among her happiest memories. Karen was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed and always remembered. She had a gift for connection–never meeting a stranger, always eager to learn about others. Her genuine curiosity and warmth drew people to her, and they cherished the way she made them feel. Karen is survived by her loving children, Jim Carr (Teree), Matt Carr (Hilary), Kara Barth (Wayne); grandchildren, Samantha Keese (Mike), Brendan Carr, Katie Carr, Andrew Barth, Charlie Carr, Matthew Barth; great-granddaughter, Ada Keese; siblings, Francis Langer (Barbara Yelle) and Michele Miller, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, beginning at 10:00 A.M. at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 5105 Ocean Hwy W, Shallotte, NC, 28470.
