Marie Upperco Douglas

Marie Upperco Douglas, 92, of Westminster, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on April 25, 1933, she was the daughter of Leon and Treva Upperco. She was the loving wife of her predeceased husband George Douglas, for 57 years. She was also predeceased by her brothers Albert, John, Howard and Sterling Upperco. Marie was a graduate of Western Maryland College (McDaniel College) majoring in early childhood education. She had a love for children and spent her career teaching in Carroll County Schools. After retirement, she continued to teach/volunteer at Carroll Christian Schools. She was a member of Church of the Open Door. She had a strong faith and enjoyed sharing this with everyone. Marie's love extended far beyond her immediate family, whom she embraced as her own. To say Marie was extraordinary is an understatement. She had a gift for making everyone feel like the most important person in the room. There was always enough room in her heart and at her table. Her deep love, selflessness, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Surviving Marie is her daughter Lisa Halliwill of Westminster and her son Dean Douglas and his wife Trish of Westminster. She was also known as "Gummy" to her 4 grandchildren- Sara Groves, Nichole Freeburn and spouse Levi Freeburn, Lauren Browning and spouse Lee Browning, Kristen Douglas and 9 great grandchildren, Carly, Julianna, Austin, Autumn, Chloe, Landon, Hudson, Olivia, and Grace. The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 11am at the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior to the beginning of the service. Interment will be private.
