Phillip Stansfield Obituary

Phillip Maurice Stansfield, age 85, of Glenville, PA and formerly of Hampstead, MD, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at his home. Born June 6, 1939 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Herbert and Beulah (Myers) Stansfield. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn Myers Stansfield, who predeceased him in 2022. Phil is survived by his daughters, Donna Stansfield Reck and husband Thomas and their daughter, Lauren Elizabeth; Deborah Cheryl Purpora and husband Salvatore and their children, Rosario Adam, Alexander Joshua, Aaron Jacob and Adriano Vincenzo; great-grandsons, Carter and Zane Purpora; twin brothers, Clinton Lee Stansfield and wife Patricia and Clifford Lou Stansfield and wife Lynn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Phil had a diverse and fulfilling life. He was a graduate of the Massanutten Military Academy and served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962, primarily stationed in Germany. Professionally, he worked at Acme Bakery, General Electric, Mirada, and retired from the NSA as a maintenance electrician. Phil was a member of Hope Baptist Church, Hanover, PA and the American Legion Post 200, Hampstead. He was a past master of Charity Lodge 134, Freeland, MD and Lebanon Lodge 175, Manchester, MD both of which he was the oldest member. He was also a member of Boumi Temple, Baltimore, MD and along with his wife, the Plymouth Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of Jefferson Sportsmen Club in Spring Grove, PA, of which he and his wife enjoyed volunteering for the Jefferson Carnival. He especially enjoyed time at his hunting cabin "Nathaniel Mountain" in West Virginia, where in addition to hunting memorable times were spent playing pitch and pinochle. He and his wife bowled on leagues for more than 50 years, and he also enjoyed gardening and playing softball. A man with a big heart, he was always willing to help anyone in need. A visitation will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, MD on Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Masonic memorial services will be at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Allen Harris will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery, Union Bridge. A celebration of his life will be held at Windsor Station of the New Windsor Fire Company following burial.
