Richard Snyder Obituary

Richard Snyder, 75, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Dove House in Westminster, Maryland. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Judy Kay Snyder; his son, Jeremy Snyder and his wife Kelly; His daughter, Jennifer Snyder; his five grandchildren, Tyler, Riley, Carson, Brooke, and Brianna; his brother Ronald Snyder and his wife Regina; his brother Raymond Snyder and his wife Teddie; his sister Rosanne Bright and her husband Jim; and his many other close family and friends. Richard was born and raised in Lewistown, Pennsylvania and was the son of James L. Snyder and Martha (Masemore) Snyder. After graduating from Lewistown High School in 1963, Richard attended the Pennsylvania State University where he received a bachelor's degree in communication. After he graduated college in 1967, he began a long distinguished career in broadcast news at the Voice of America in Washington, D.C. He was an editor-in-chief of the English department at VOA. His career lasted 30 years before retirement. In 1976, Richard moved his family to Manassas, Virginia where they lived until 2005. After retirement, Richard and his wife moved to Taneytown, Maryland, to be close to his children and their grandchildren. Richard's love of his alma mater, The Penn State University, was evident with the many years of travel to and from football games with his son, grandsons, and friends. He wore the blue and white with pride, whenever he had the chance. He enjoyed tailgating, walking campus, and reminiscing about his college memories. Richard's deep love of family drew him into a lifelong interest in research of family history and ancestry. He spent decades organizing and reuniting generations of family from both the Snyder and Masemore side through family reunions. He and his wife were members of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown, Maryland. He was actively involved in the Chancel Choir, men's group, and also served as a Deacon. He enjoyed golfing, going on vacation with family, and going on dates with his wife. Richard was an inspiration to everyone he came to know and was loved by all. The family will hold a celebration of his life on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 1pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster, Maryland. His interment will be held at a private ceremony at Spring Run Cemetery in McVeytown, Pennsylvania at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Grace United Church of Christ, Taneytown, Maryland or Spring Run Church of the Brethren, McVeytown, Pennsylvania. Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.

I am so very sorry to hear of Richard's passing. Rosanne just mentioned it when she texted me yesterday. Richard was one of my favorite people. He was always friendly and could carry on some great conversations. He helped me decide my initial path in college. He was an invaluable researcher and resource for anything Snyder ancestry along with being a photo historian. I will greatly miss seeing and speaking with him especially at the Snyder Reunions. I wish peace, healing and great memories to his family and friends.
