Ruby Jane Walton

Ruby Jane Walton, 93, of Westminster, MD, formerly of Charlottesville, VA, peacefully passed on to eternal life with her family by her side, after a short illness, at the Carroll Hospital Center on Monday, January 19, 2015. Born on November 16, 1921 in Boonesville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Zermie and Addie Shifflett. She was the wife of the late Raymond Louis Walton, who passed away on April 18, 2001 and to whom she was married to for 61 years. She was the co-owner with her husband of the Raymond Walton Lumber Company for 60 years where she was also the vice president and treasurer. She enjoyed her family and friends, reading, gardening, and cooking. She was also of Episcopalian faith. Surviving her are son and daughter-in-law Steven G. and Patricia Walton of Hampstead, MD; daughter Faithe W. Stem of Westminster, MD; brother-in-law William Hedgebeth of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren Victoria R. Walton, Jessica A. Hebbel and husband Richard, Eric Jonathan Clarke, and Michael H. Stem, Jr.; great grandchildren Olivia M. Fuller, Elizabeth R. Hebbel, William J. Hebbel, Anthony W. Stem, Nicholas W. Stem, and Christopher C. Stem; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Carrie Shifflett, Ellie Herring, Lottie Morris, Nellie Via, Violet Hedgebeth, Clarence Shifflett, Alonzo Shifflett, and James Shifflett. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January, 22 from 6:00 p.m. until the start of the funeral service at 8:00 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster, MD, with Rev. Art Monroe, Jr. officiating. The family will also receive friends on Saturday, January 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Prize Hill Church, 3291 Boonesville Rd., Boonesville, VA followed by a graveside service in Prize Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation, 300 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157 or to the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department, 1320 West Old Liberty Rd., Sykesville, MD 21784.
