Sharon Pauline Johnston

1951 - 2025

Sharon Pauline Johnston, 73, of Sykesville, MD, passed away on February 25, 2025 at the University of Maryland Medical Center following a long health struggle. Born on May 21, 1951 in Smithsburg, MD, Sharon was the daughter of the late Abraham James and Pauline (Kline) Martin. She was the youngest of three sisters. Sharon was a graduate of Smithsburg High School and was the valedictorian of her 1969 class. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French from Western Maryland College, where she also met her husband-to-be at a French House dinner. Sharon and her husband, Mike, eventually settled down in Sykesville, MD where they would raise their daughter and create many core memories together. Sharon served her nation for more than 40 years as an employee at the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, MD. Sharon was incredibly strong and resilient, surviving breast cancer and persevering over an advanced form of lymphoma for more than 23 years. She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, having taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She loved to take trips to Williamsburg, Disney World and Lancaster, and cherished every moment spent with her family, especially her granddaughters. In her spare time, Sharon also enjoyed gardening, baking, shopping, and going out to eat. Sharon is survived by her husband of 49 years, Mike Johnston; daughter, Rachel Dorsey and husband, Mike; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Madeline Dorsey; sisters, Joanne Willard and Beverly Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, Westminster, MD. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 833 Deer Park Rd, Westminster, MD, beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Melissa Helfer officiating.
