Stephen Reynolds Obituary

Stephen Charles Reynolds, 74, of Berlin, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home at Gull Creek Assisted Living, surrounded by his loving family and devoted companion, Shirley Rhodes, on June 09, 2025. Born on June 21, 1950, in Fort Lewis, Washington, to Donald Francis Reynolds and Eileen Reynolds (née Mc Carthy), Steve's early life was shaped by his father's military career, which allowed the family to travel extensively. They eventually settled in Odenton, Maryland, where his father was stationed at Fort Meade. Steve graduated from George Washington High School in San Francisco, California, in 1969. After graduating high school and then earning his two-year degree, he proudly joined the Maryland State Police. He dedicated 27½ years to the force, retiring with the rank of First Lieutenant. Continuing his lifelong commitment to public service, Steve later served with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, retiring once more in 2016. Steve is survived by his daughter, Jane (Norm) Collins; his son, Don (Kim) Reynolds; and his six grandchildren: Ryan Collins, Casey Collins, Grady Reynolds, Gage Reynolds, Gunnar Reynolds, and Alexander Johnson. He is also survived by his sister, Ann (Jim) Duffy, and his brother, Dale Reynolds, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Shirley Jane Reynolds (née Biggs), who passed away in 2015. The family will receive friends at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland, on Monday, June 16, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 17, at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Stephen's name to Michael J. Fox Foundation, www.give.michaeljfox.org or to Coastal Hospice, https://www.coastalhospice.org/make-a-donation/. I was saddened by Steve's death. When he was much younger and in the Maryland State Police, as was I, we frequently visited each other's homes for barbecues, swimming, dinners and good times. We always had fun with Steve, Shirley, Janie, and Donnie.

Many years later, Steve and I both took up Golf and we frequently played together. It was fun times and you will be missed on the links, Steve.

I met Steve many years ago, I´m thinking maybe 20 years ago in OC at the MCAA conference. We immediately made a connection and became friends. After I retired, I lost touch with Steve as Jen and I traveled for 4 years before settling down in TX. I did visit Steve twice after he moved to OC and got to see his place and then we met for lunch one other time. So very sorry to hear of his passing. Steve was a great guy and I know he will be missed by many!!
