For many years Bud worked as a foreman for Asplundh Tree Company. He was an avid fisherman, also enjoyed crabbing, playing sports, especially with his sons, and watching sports. He loved vegetable gardening and was known for his homemade sauerkraut. He was faithful in his religious beliefs.
