Wayne Welker

1949 - 2021

Wayne B. Welker, age 71, of Union Bridge, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at his home. Born March 25, 1949 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Glenn Blair Welker and Lillian E. Kocourek Welker. He was the husband of Deborah L. Welker, his wife of 49 years. After graduating in 1967 from Francis Scott Key High School, Wayne became a licensed electrician and owned his own business. He was later employed as an electrical inspector for Carroll County and then with the Middle Department Inspection Agency, rising to Regional Manager for Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania before his retirement in 2018. As an inspector he was firm but fair and took the time to explain the code on site, as well as teaching formal code seminars. It was more than work; he enjoyed the opportunity to teach the trade. Wayne was a member and past master of Plymouth Lodge #143, A.F. & A.M. of Union Bridge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle and, as all Welkers do, ice cream. Surviving in addition to his wife Deb are daughters, Mary Welker and Tammy Strine and husband Carl, all of Union Bridge; 2 grandchildren, Evan and Collin Strine and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Carmalita Smith and brothers, Glenn J. and Ronald L. Welker. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date. Interment will be private.
