William Hughes Obituary
Born July 7, 1951, in Hanover, Pa., he was the son of C. Henry Hughes, of Finksburg and the late M. Louise Waddell Hughes, who died March 18, 2012. He was the husband of Cindy Hughes, whom he married Sept. 28, 2007.
He was an inspector for infrastructure for the City of Westminster for 28 years. He enjoyed going to Blues music festivals. He was known as "Mr. Fixit," doing construction, home improvement, and was working on building his home in Buffalo, Wyo.
He had previously coached Jaycees Girls Softball and also was an umpire for Carroll County high school girls softball games. He had volunteered to work at the United Methodist Church's Camp Hope in Western Maryland. He and his wife enjoyed traveling. He was a member and former President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Men's Auxiliary/Home Association.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Shawn and Jim Hurman, of Baltimore; a daughter, Gina Hughes, of Hampstead; stepchildren and spouses Eric and Alicia Stonesifer, of Ambler, Pa., Bradley and Emily Stonesifer, of Los Angeles, Calif., Wesley and Elizabeth Stonesifer, of Taneytown, and Amanda and Michael McGrew, of Sabillasville; grandchildren Emma and Abby Hurman, of Baltimore; step-grandchildren Joshua and Matthew Stonesifer; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Trotter officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery at Calvary United Methodist Church in Gamber.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Carroll County Chapter of Special Olympics, c/o Laurie Brewer, 546 Willow Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Bill's untimely death. He was always one of the nicest people I had ever met -- always the same -- cheerful and friendly to all. Cindy, I am so very sorry for your loss. The last time I spoke with Bill he said how much you both were looking forward to moving west. I've lost count of the number of games we did together, driving to the games always lead to great discussions, not every one about sports. He was a truly terrific person and brought so much to the community.
