William Troxell Obituary

William M. Troxell, Sr., 92, entered into God's eternal care on Friday, April 30, at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster from an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Born December 9, 1928, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Troxell and Olive M. Troxell. His beloved wife of 58 years, Doris Thompson Troxell predeceased him in 2008. Bill was a 1945 graduate of Westminster High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Army serving time in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Medal of Victory for his service during World War II, and was later called back to service for the Korean War. He graduated from the Baltimore Business College in 1950, and began a career with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad as a coal salesman having offices in Baltimore and later in Philadelphia. After retiring early from the B&O, he became an antique dealer specializing in early American furniture, folk art, and pottery. He cared deeply for his wife and family, and would say he lived the greatest years of this Country. He is survived by a son, William M. Troxell, Jr., and wife Paula; one grandson, Ryan Paul Troxell; brother-in-law Truman "Sonny" Thompson and wife Thelma Lee; sister-in-law Janet Arbaugh and husband Randy; sister-in-law Jo Ann Myers and husband Tim; and nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind close friends from his former Winchester Park neighborhood, his church, and Carroll Lutheran Village. Bill was a life member of the American Legion Post 31 and the VFW Post 467. He was also a member of the Door to Virtue Lodge #46, as well as the Boumi Temple Lodge in Baltimore. He was a lifetime member of the Westminster United Methodist Church where he served many years as an usher. A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Meadow Branch cemetery on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 11:00am with Rev. Kenneth Humbert. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157 or the Westminster United Methodist Church, 162 East Main Street, Westminster, MD 21157. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fletcher Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fletcherfuneralhome.net.
