Bruce Miewald Obituary
Bruce Miewald, 68
Bruce Keith Miewald, M.D., 68, passed away on August 9, 2025, at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. He was born on December 13, 1956, in Portland, Oregon, to John and Ramona (Mona) Miewald.
Bruce's childhood was shaped by his father's service as a Navy physician, which meant moving frequently, including time spent in Hawaii and throughout the United States. He developed a love of learning that would guide his life. He studied chemistry at the University of Montana before earning his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed his residency in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic where he also served as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.
In 1987, Bruce married Claudia (Gehring), whom he had met in Pittsburgh. They moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1990, where Bruce continued his practice as a child and adolescent psychiatrist. He dedicated his career to caring for young people and their families, serving his community with compassion and determination. Bruce and Claudia raised two sons together, Ross and Alex. Though they later divorced in 2013, Bruce remained deeply devoted to his children. In 2020, he married Heather (Jones), and they relocated to Texas.
Bruce will be remembered for his tireless work ethic and his love of knowledge. He was a lifelong learner who delighted in teaching and explaining complex ideas, whether in his profession or in everyday life. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed science fiction, psychology, and history. He had a dry wit, a fondness for dad jokes, and a goofy streak that made those around him smile.
Most of all, Bruce was a proud and loving father. He made it a point to show up for his children's milestones and never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was-words he offered generously, knowing how much they mattered. He also had a deep love for animals, especially his beloved dog, Buddy, who was truly his spirit companion.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Heather; his sons, Ross and Alex; his brothers, Dave (Michelle), Don (Tonya), and John, nephew and nieces Michael, Mackenzie, Vanessa and Serena. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother Mona Miewald and father, John Miewald, M.D.
