Charles "Chuck" R. Carlson, 92
Charles R. "Chuck" Carlson passed away August 10th, 2025, at his home in Hauser Idaho, with family by his side. He was born November 25, 1932, in Milaca Minnesota to Ted C. Carlson and Judith (Nelson) Carlson, where he joined his older brother Lyle. He grew up near Crosby Minnesota, where he worked on the Northern Pacific Railroad and in the local Iron Mines. He was drafted into the Army April 27th, 1953, and served in Korea until he was discharged in April 1955.
Chuck traveled the northwest for several years where he pursued his musical career. Chuck settled in Pinehurst Idaho, where he met Kaye Goodwin while he was playing at the Office Tavern. They were married December 19th, 1980. He worked for Bunker Hill and Eakin Construction, retiring in 2008. He then took a part-time job with the Trail of the Coeur d'Alene's, where he took great pride in keeping the trail clean and safe. He could be seen riding along in his cart, with his dog by his side or with his friend Gail. He was always there to answer any questions, but mostly to bring a smile to anyone he met. He also assisted in maintenance at the Cataldo Mission, finally retiring in 2022. He was an amazingly talented musician. He continued to play music and entertain all throughout his entire life. From full band gigs, weekend gatherings, Senior dances or just for fun. He brought so much joy to all his family and friends.
Chuck truly loved to be outdoors. From camping, fishing, backpacking or just hiking, he was always active. Once he started working on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alene's he immediately purchased a bike and rode hundreds of miles on that trail, once completing the entire route in one ride. Upon selling the ranch he decided to buy an E-bike, like the rest of us "kids". At 92 he thought it might be best to get an E-trike and in just under four months he put 371 miles on it. He loved taking day trips with the family on that trail. He was an amazing man and will be deeply missed.
Chuck is survived by his loving children, Janine Eakin, Teresa (Bob) Mathers, Chad (Tammy) Goodwin, Mark (Lisa) Goodwin, Rene'e (John) Amoroso and Laura (Jim) Beckman. 14-Grandchildren, 20-Great Grandchildren and 2-Great Great Grandchildren, Sister Mildred (Jerome) Swalboski, Sister-in-Law Jewel Carlson, numerous nieces and nephews and his loving companion Gail Scott.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Kaye and two brothers, Lyle Carlson (Duluth Minnesota) and Reverend Gene Carlson (Athol Idaho).
The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the remarkable team at Hospice of North Idaho, including the social workers, nurses and aides. Their care, compassion and gentleness made all the difference in Chuck's final days.
A celebration of Life will be held on Sunday Sept. 7th 12-3, at Alts Copperhouse in Post Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chucks honor to Hospice of North Idaho
