Cleveland Conrad "Booty" Porter obituary

Cleveland Porter Obituary

Cleveland Conrad "Booty" Porter, of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, left this world to be with the Lord on July 14, 2025.

Booty was born on October 21, 1961, in Inverness, Florida, making him 63 at the time of his passing.

Booty was a proud graduate of Citrus High School class of 1979 and Florida State University, he served for The Florida Department of Corrections as a probation officer for 41 years. The community will also remember him as the proud owner of Porter's Jewelers in Bushnell, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and Bill (William) Porter; his sister, Ginger Porter; his brother, Hal Porter; and his son, Aaron Porter. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Pam Porter; his son, Matthew (Megan) Porter; his sister, Beth (Mike) Anderson; and their son, Nathan Anderson. Many extended family and friends.

Booty was known for his generous spirit, deep community roots, and unwavering loyalty to the Florida State Seminoles. A true outdoors-man at heart, he found joy and peace in hunting and fishing, often sharing these moments with family and friends. His dedication to youth sports left a lasting impact on many youth of Sumter County. Not only did he coach his sons' baseball teams with pride and patience, but Porter's Jewelers and Photography also continued to sponsor local leagues long after his children had grown, ensuring future generations had the same opportunities to play and grow.

Above all, he cherished his time with family-especially taking his beloved wife to the casino. His leadership, fierce love for his family, and enduring support of his community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

The family will host a visitation from 11:00 AM to1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 25, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Inverness, 550 Pleasant Grove Rd Inverness, FL 34452. I met Porter when I promoted to the Bushnell Probation office several years ago. I wasn't sure what to think at first, learning that Porter had been with the Department for almost 40 years at that time and thinking to myself, who on God's green earth wants to work that long? It didn't take much time to realize that Porter was in that spot for that long because he chose to live a life of service to others, whether it be in his official capacity as a probation officer, philanthropy, or volunteering as a coach in youth sports. He was also a great mentor, and in a way acted as a father figure to the newer officers in the department. There have been times where I asked Porter for help on and off duty, and Porter would literally drop everything to come to assist as soon as possible. I feel privileged to have been able to return the favor (which at times was a daily occurrence in the office providing Porter with tech support.) and feel even more privileged to call Porter a friend. After Porter retired, he would often drop by with gifts for us from him and his wonderful wife Pam, or he would bring his famous brownies. When I heard the news of Porter's passing, at first, I didn't believe it, then I became angry and asked why? I have had some time to think and reflecting back on learning how many lives Porter touched again through being a probation officer, youth coach, youth sports sponsor, and all around wonderful person, I realized that his work was done and it was time for him to rest. Porter will truly be missed.
