Jane Hartzog Obituary

Jane Hartzog, 78

Jane Allen Hartzog, born on December 30, 1944, in Milwaukee, WI, passed away at the age of 78 in Omaha, NE. She was a force to be reckoned with and lived life on her own terms.

Born into a military family, Jane was a seasoned traveler from a young age. She even lived in Berlin, Germany, during the siege of Berlin and was part of the historic Berlin airlift. Despite the constant movement, Jane remained grounded and always found a way to make friends wherever she went.

In 1963, Jane married the love of her life, L.D. Hartzog, while they were both attending the New Mexico School of Mines in Socorro, NM. Their marriage took them to various mining towns around the Western states, including California, Nevada, and Idaho. Jane's ability to create a home and stable family life no matter how isolated the mine was, truly showcased her tenacity and love for her family. While Larry ran the mine, Jane sustained a family life for them and integrated the family into the local community. They finally settled down in Hayden, ID, where they spent their retirement years.

Jane had many hobbies and interests, including Bridge, gardening, reading, and sewing. She was a Life Master in the local Bridge Clubs and spent many happy hours playing with friends. She savored the competition and the lasting friendships developed within the Bridge community. She was also an avid gardener and spent countless hours tending to her plants and flowers while listening to her favorite audiobooks. She volunteered at the local Coeur d'Alene library, where she loved to help people find their next favorite book.

Jane is survived by her two children, Gregory (Josetta Mushaka) Hartzog in Atlanta, GA, and Timothy (Sherrill) Hartzog in Omaha, NE, and her grandchildren, Arionne (Waylon) Rowe in Williston, ND, and Zackery Hartzog in Omaha, NE. She is also survived by her siblings, William (Jane Bishop) Allen in Denver, CO, Alice Allen in West Hills, CA, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Hartzog in El Centro, CA, plus various nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Hartzog, and her sister, Patricia McGowen.

Jane will be remembered as a kind, generous, and fun-loving woman who lived life to the fullest. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Jane.

Jane's family would like to inform her friends and loved ones that Jane suffered from Dementia. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request that you consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory to help support the fight against this devastating disease.

The family would also like to inform everyone that they will be holding a Celebration of Life in honor of Jane at a later time. They will provide more details once they have finalized the arrangements.

Jane's family thanks everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. Let us all remember Jane for the wonderful person she was and keep her memory alive in our hearts.

We spoke of Jane and her sunny disposition just the other day. I met her in the bridge world and worked briefly with her on the Spokane Unit. She was lovely, always so happy and easy to get along.with, such a nice lady.

I only knew Jane briefly through my association with duplicate bridge and sharing a position on the Unit where she was secretary. Still, she touched me with her friendliness and willingness to help. I also will remember her friendly demeanour at the bridge table and often think of her. I´m sure her family has fond memories of her and she is missed.
