Larry Sappington, 80

Larry Sappington, age 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15th, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and enduring faith.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne; his children Lori, Steve, and Lance; his brother, Donnie; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.

Larry dedicated his life to education, building a long and impactful career as an educator. He was passionate about shaping young minds and believed deeply in the power of learning. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, as he inspired colleagues, students, and community members alike with his wisdom and integrity.

Dear Jeanne, children Lori, Steve, and Lance; his brother, Donnie; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. and extended family:

We lost a Giant of a man with the recent passage of Larry. My memories and association with Larry commenced in Wallace Little League and Wallace Junior High School, at Wallace, Idaho, extending through these past several months when we last conversed on the phone and made plans to get together in Post Falls for lunch.

Our relationship was more than an extended lifetime friendship as we were competitive athletes in football, basketball, and baseball as rivals while Larry transferred to Kellogg where he graduated from in 1962.

Larry and I then reconnected at the University of Idaho in Moscow, as Fraternity Brothers within the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

Larry will be greatly missed by all of you, as myself, and a legion of friends that this amiable man knew and kept. He was a man of great Faith as a Christian but he would approve the words I offer to all ... press these words into your heart for there´s more than life expressed, therein, indeed, there´s the very essence of who and what Larry forever will be for myself and many others ...

DO NOT WEEP FOR ME

Do not stand by my grave and weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am a diamond glint on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle Autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush.

Of quite birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starshine at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

Coach Sappington came into my life when I moved to a boys ranch in Wilbur in 1971. He was my coach, teacher, and such an important and strong role model for me at a time when I needed it most. Larry was a big reason for me going into the teaching and coaching profession. Coach Sappington, I look forward to seeing you again in Heaven.
