Maribee Sovereign Obituary

Maribee Sovereign, 72

With hearts heavy yet filled with gratitude, we announce the peaceful passing of Maribee Sovereign, a cherished wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother, and steadfast friend, who entered into the loving embrace of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 11, 2025. Born in Oakridge, Tennessee, on May 20, 1952, Maribee's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, faith, and unwavering kindness.

Maribee's journey was one of constant movement and adaptation, shaping her into a woman of remarkable resilience and empathy. Her family's frequent relocations brought her to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1969, a pivotal moment where she not only found a new home but also a profound, lifelong connection with her faith. She pursued her passion for healing, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Idaho State University, and began her career as a compassionate Registered Nurse at the local hospital. It was there, amidst the challenges and triumphs of her profession, that she met the love of her life, Carey W. Sovereign.

Their marriage in Idaho Falls was the beginning of a shared devotion spanning 49 and a half years. In 1979, with two young children in tow, they relocated to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where they became pillars of the Coeur d'Alene Christian Center. Maribee poured her heart into raising their four children and nurturing young minds as a beloved teacher at the Christian Center School for 23 years.

Her dedication to nursing was rekindled in 2002 when she joined the Oncology department at Kootenai Medical Center, providing comfort and care during some of life's most challenging moments. Later, she found her true calling with Hospice of North Idaho, where she served with unwavering compassion until her retirement in 2018. Maribee's touch was gentle, her spirit strong, and her presence a beacon of hope for those she served.

Beyond her professional achievements, Maribee cultivated a home and garden that were a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality. Her hands, skilled in both healing and nurturing, transformed her surroundings into a place of beauty and peace. She was a generous host, her home a haven where friends and family gathered, sharing laughter and creating lasting memories.

Maribee was the embodiment of the Proverbs 31 woman, a testament to strength, wisdom, and selfless love. Her legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Carey W. Sovereign; her children: Derek W. (Connie) Sovereign, Jana R. (Jeremiah) Steckman, Jonathan C. (Gabriel) Sovereign, and Shelley J. (Daniel) Powers; her 22 cherished grandchildren; and a multitude of dear friends whose lives she enriched.

We will forever hold Maribee's memory close, cherishing the love and wisdom she imparted. Her spirit, a gentle force of unwavering faith and kindness, will continue to inspire us all. A celebration of Maribee's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Living Hope Church, 3639 W Prairie Ave, Hayden, ID 83835. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North Idaho, a cause that held a special place in Maribee's heart.
