Richard Schmidt Obituary

Richard "Dick" Schmidt, 89

Richard C Schmidt, 89, of Hayden, Idaho passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024. Richard, fondly known as Dick, was born November 27, 1934 in Spokane, WA. He moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1956 and lived in Hayden, ID at the time of his passing. He made a lasting impact on his community through his service with the Jaycees, Kiwanis, Board of Directors for North Idaho College Foundation and served on the Leisure Park Homeowners Association Board.

Dick worked for the Coeur d'Alene Creamery before beginning his career of 40 years as a Prudential Insurance agent. He was recognized with a Community Service Award from Prudential for his commitment to improving the lives of others due to his philosophy of planning and service for his clients. He was instrumental in adding lights to the Coeur d'Alene High School football field and started a program for the collection and disposal of Christmas trees through the Jaycees blending his civic-mindedness with care for the environment.

Dick shared a love of adventure with his beloved wife, Jean. Together they traveled over 250,000 miles on their motorcycle creating countless memories and friends. He was a devoted fan of Gonzaga basketball and Seattle Seahawks, but his greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various activities. He cheered them on with pride and enthusiasm, celebrating their achievements with unwavering support.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jean; their three children, Dale Schmidt (wife Julie), Shari Kane-Perry (husband Jim) and Tammy Whalen. He has three grandchildren Dylan Kane (wife Randi), Vanessa Mustafa (husband Brad) and Collin Whalen (fiancee Mia). He has four great-grandchildren; Brantlee Kane, Karson Kane, Makenlee Kane and Esmay Mustafa. All of whom brought immense joy to this life. Brother Wesley Schmidt (wife Mary) and sister Cathy Emerson.

In accordance with Dick's wishes, no memorial service will be held. Donations in his memory can be made to the National Police Dog Foundation at www.nationalpolicedogfoundation.org or K9s For Warriors at www.k9sforwarriors.org, honoring his appreciation for service animals. Memories can be submitted to his Yates Funeral Home obituary.

Dick will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
