Steven Edgar Drake, 75

Steven E. Drake of Spirit Lake, Idaho passed away at home on January 25, 2024 with loving family present.

Steve was born March 26, 1948 to Lawrence and Mary Margaret Drake in Denison, Iowa. He grew up in Buck Grove, Iowa working and playing with his six siblings on the family farm. He graduated from high school in Denison, Iowa in 1966. He then joined the US Navy serving four years. He returned to the family farm after his honorable discharge. He also served as Deputy Sheriff at this time.

He married Pamela Stoker and began his family and they continued to farm until 1978 when he moved to Snohomish County, Washington. While here he often volunteered at Open Door Baptist Church in Lynnwood, Washington. He worked for Waste Management Sanitation for approximately 18 years before moving to Sandpoint, Idaho, where he continued working for them for a few years. After retiring he began a property maintenance business which involved family and the great outdoors. Once he moved to Kootenai County he worked for Lowes in the gardening department sharing his great knowledge of gardening and how to care for the land. His final employment involved owning and working a small engine repair shop in Spirit Lake, Idaho.

Steve loved to ride motorcycles, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, working on old cars and being with family.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and brothers, Daniel and Eddy Paul. He has four surviving siblings: Sally Rutz, Mary Lee Reitnao, David and wife, Maggie, and Julie Georgius; his children: son, Kelly Drake and daughter, Sarah Drake; grandsons: Alex (Erika) and Kaden Drake; great-granddaughters: Aadiya and Arabella; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held in the spring at Medical Lake, Washington Veterans Cemetery. For more information please contact Sarah at 425-501-0861.

When asked if he needed anything else, Steve's famous last words were always: "A bag of money if you have it!"
