James Edward Moran

Mr. Moran passed away January 26, 2026 after a long and courageous fight against Head and Neck cancer. He was born on March 4, 1945 in Clearfield, Pa. where he would spend parts of his childhood summers with his maternal grandmother, Ellen and grandfather, James Thomas (who was a retired coal miner).

Jim joined the Army National Guard Infantry Unit based in Elkton, Md when he was 21 and ended up making that his career of 39 years with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He loved going to the University of Delaware football games where he was an alumnus with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. He returned to deer hunting after meeting Kathy on a military trip to Germany, and they would hunt at Aberdeen Proving Grounds until he met John Jones and began hunting on his farm in Earleville. He also had many friends at American Service Center and attended many fundraisers with them for the Elk Foundation and Delta Waterfowl. He also served many years as a volunteer with the Department of Natural Resources Police.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lib Moran, his sister Cheryl and her spouse, Rob Robinson, sister-in-law, Beth Moran, and devastated by his son, Scott's death. He leaves behind to cherish him: his wife, Kathy; daughter, Jennifer Foti (Bill) of Ewing, NJ; son, Seth Moran (Emily) of Chesapeake City, MD; daughter in law, Casey Moran of Providence, RI; grandchildren: Severin, Bridget, Molly, Willa, and Jasper. He is also survived by his siblings: Rita Norman (Phil), Elkton, MD, Gary Moran, Earleville, MD, and Kim Savini (Steve), Newark, DE.

He takes with him the 32 Special rifle he received from his grandfather and the ashes of his beloved dog, Hearse.

Visitation will be held on February 20, 2026, from 1PM-3PM at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Funeral service and interment will be private in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
