Raymond Herwig Obituary

Raymond Henry Herwig, Jr., 67 years, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in the University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital of Havre de Grace, MD. Born November 18, 1949 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Raymond, Sr. and Elaine Grubert Herwig.
Ray served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 until 1972 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. Ray was a very active member of the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville, MD, and a member of District 5 Little League.
Ray was a sought after contractor. His son, Justin, was always amazed that he never needed to advertise. Word of mouth was all Ray needed. He was renowned for his expertise and attention to detail.
Ray was a strong supporter of the Perryville Little League. After coaching his children over 10 years, he continued for years afterwards. He served as coach, mentor and inspiration for many.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Christy Herwig of Port Deposit, MD; sons, Shane Herwig and Justin Raymond Herwig; daughter, Brooke Herwig; one grandson, Brennan Appleby-Herwig; brothers, Jeffrey Herwig and wife, Michele, Gary Herwig and wife, Patty, and Edwin Hanson and wife, Joan; and sister, Diane Greer.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Craig Herwig.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Perryville Little League in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017, 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville, MD.
