Peggy Jones Obituary
Peggy Irene (York) Jones, 88, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, MO. She leaves behind three daughters, Brenda (Randy) Roy of Cane Hill, Terry Jones of Nevada, Debbie (Stephen) Jones of Overland Park, KS, a son, Jody (Michelle) Jones of Stockton, a foster daughter Carolyn Beaver of Joplin, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and relatives.
Peggy was born on September 27, 1936 to Harry Clarence and Clara Elizabeth York at their home in Stockton. Peggy graduated from Stockton High School in 1955. On November 13th, 1954 she married the love of her life, Sidney Shelton Jones. For their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2014, Sid surprised Peggy with a wedding vow renewal celebration with family and close friends. Peggy was a stay at home mom until her youngest, Jody, started Kindergarten, when she went to work as a grocery store clerk at Clark's Food Store, owned by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Bill Clark, and later, Woods Supermarket for more than 30 years. Peggy was a member of Stockton Christian Church where she enjoyed working in the nursery, teaching vacation bible school, singing in the church choir, and volunteering in countless ways. At the time of her death, Peggy had been a member of the church for 73 years and proudly held the title of the longest living member. Peggy was a well-known resident of Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility for 4.5 years where she was highly involved in activities; amongst her favorites were cooking, painting, and performing. She is most famous for her Frosty the Snowman dance at the annual Christmas choir performance. Her final 6 months of life were spent at home with her granddaughter Alyssa (Jason) Maus and great-grandson Ruger. Peggy was a staple in the Stockton community; she never met a stranger. Our "Granny" will be greatly missed by her many friends and family, but we rest assured knowing she is dancing with the Lord.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Darrell Lee York and Charlie Dee York, sisters, Mary Ellen Clark and Agnes Harris, and grandson Brenton Handly.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, June 29, at 1pm, followed by a funeral service at 2pm, both of which will be held at Stockton Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Show Me Christian Youth Home.
