Alan Lee Buseman

Alan Lee Buseman, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at his home in Vinton.

Alan was born on July 15, 1947, in Canistota, South Dakota, the son of John and Velma (Plucker) Buseman. He gave his life to Christ when he was 5 years old, and renewed that commitment when he was in college. Alan received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota. He also earned two master's degrees, one in linguistics from the University of North Dakota and one in computer science from the University of Arizona. On July 25, 1970, he was united in marriage to Karen Nielsen in San Bernadino, California. Alan and Karen met while both were working in the computer department of Campus Crusade for Christ.

Alan worked for Wycliffe Bible Translators for 52 years. He did computer work for Wycliffe in Central America and South Asia. He produced a variety of programs to help translators. He also taught classes and served as a consultant to people around the world. His consulting trips took him to 18 different countries.

Music was a big part of his life. He was the choir director at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton for a time and in North Carolina. He was a member of various choral groups in North Carolina and in South Asia. He also enjoyed N scale trains, wood carving, old cars, and radio controlled airplanes and boats.For fun he read mystery stories as well as linguistic books and grammatical descriptions of various languages.

Alan is survived by his wife Karen of Vinton; siblings, Linda (Mike) Spangle, Lavonne (Dan) Johnson, Lori Jo Jensen (Dave Eikenbary), Dean (Val) Buseman, and Laura Buseman; 9 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Delwin, in infancy.
